The University Library probably licenses most of the resources you need but license agreements with the vendors do not allow the library to extend access to its resources to external groups.

That is where library consortia like HKN come in. HKN is a University-run-initaitive. Our role is to extend the University of Alberta's and the University of Calgary's existing license agreements to external subscribers at a lower cost than if each group were to subscribe individually.

By licensing through a library consortium you are using both the expertise of the information professionals at the two Universities, and the buying power of the consortium. Your group benifits both in savings in time and dollar resources.
